The aenictopecheids are inconspicuous, little known, and rarely collected bugs. Some species have retained plesiomorphic characters not encountered in other Enicocephalomorpha. They range in length from 3 to 10 mm. Four subfamilies are currently recognized comprising 10 genera and about 20 species. Three of the subfamilies are restricted to New Zealand, Australia, and Singapore, with only Aenictopecheinae also comrpising boreal, Neotropical and Malagassy species.
