On the systematic position of Pseudobebaeus goyazensis Distant, 1911 within the Pentatomoidea (Heteroptera, Pentatomoidea)

The monotypic genus Pseudobebaeus Distant, 1911 was included in the Acanthosomatidae by Kumar (1974). Based on a new detailed examination of the lectotype of Pseudobebaeus goyazensis and a cladistic analysis of the Acanthosomatidae (Fischer 1993) it is shown that this species does not belong to the Acanthosomatidae. Characters conflicting with the ground pattern of the Acanthosomatidae are discussed. Because a cladistic analysis of the Pentatomoidea has not been carried out yet and even only a few phylogenetic analysises of subordinate taxa within the Pentatomoidea have been worked out, one can only include Pseudobebaeus in the Pentatomoidea.
